Why do people think Liz Phair is a sellout?
I have seen this in many music articles, and heard this from many people about how Liz Phair has sold out, about how Exile in Guyville and stuff before that was her best and how anything after Exile in Guyville made her a sellout. How did she sellout? I still see her as a chick who likes to make rock music, and does it well. I’m not saying these people are wrong, or that I am right, but what makes Liz Phair a sellout? How? I don’t think she is, but that’s just my opinion.
Liz Phair makes good music, no matter what album. What I’ve seen in a lot of music magazines and heard from people is that she sold out after her self-titles album.
People say that Liz Phair is a sellout because her self titled album was very “commercial” sounding. It also sprung a semi hit with “Why Can’t I” paired with a pretty lil’ pop video to match. Now, I’m not saying I agree with the naysayers because this is the same album with the song “H.W.C.” on it, LOL — and that is hardly a commercialized and radio friendly tune imo.
