computer backup network

How can I determine the type of network adapter you have?
My team has recently been set by one of my friends. Before the review, although would not start and was always off ony me (I know sucks right LOL). Anyway, when I came back using a Dell OS recovery disk. Before I would get it fixed I did a CD backup of my drivers and adapters and all the little things that I have on my computer (I only use my computer for school), but ran into trouble when I tried to connect my computer via the network adapter. Where can I find information about what network adapter I am using and where can I download the software or driver for my adapter just does not work I have tried and tried. Oh, in case you were wondering my friend moved to Australia, go figure on the right of a friend who is (LOL). Thanks go to the points to who answers to my question the best and pionts me in the right direction.
If the driver fails to load, then it may likely have nothing to click to get the properties of … Also, if you go to Device Manager most likely just displaying "Ethernet device" without much more information on what it is. Your best best is either go to the website of the company computer (eg Dell) and enter the model number – this will list the drivers for your machine. http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/index.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen If it's an "I" built "computer and the network adapter is built into the motherboard then you should know the model of the motherboard (usually silkscreened somewhere on the board – Abit, ECS, etc.). Again, to go to the website of the company should be able to trace the driver. The other option, you have a network card installed (like a 3com or Linksys, etc), in which case, again, you may need to check their sites to find the driver. If not loaded at the time, then there really is not much that could just 'click' to get the information. Most utilities will publish all the information that the driver gives (again, if there is no driver – No information to publish). If necessary, you can publish more information about your system (as much as you known), and this could help give a more direct response on what driver you need.
