computer backup basics
Nobody in the world of Star Trek's 24th century backup their hard drives from the computer?
Almost every night in Star Trek Voyager, the EMH (holographic doctor) is suffering from a catastrophic failure in its subroutines. Then listen to everyone saying that if they can not stop the degradation in its program, which will be lost forever. Why not someone who just quit the installation CD-ROM supplied with wine, and then reinstall? Or even more sensitive, why does not someone make a backup copy of your program? I can not believe that Starfleet IT department have overlooked a basic principle computer system maintenance. Do you think the IT department Starfleet are so irresponsible, lazy and workshy like most departments today IT? Maybe that's why you never see anyone from the ships of IT departments. No one can find. Can you imagine calling the help desk to report a problem with the life of support teams, only to be told by some geek selfless you have to * turn it off then back on again *…
I suppose they are as lazy as the people in the 21st century. heh. I never liked the idea of a medical team of animation, what if something went wrong (as you mentioned) with him and gave him the diagnosis and the wrong treatment? Give Me Good ol Country Doctor Doctor or Doctor McCoy Crusher anyday.
