For Overseas Filipinos: Do you have a treasured Filipino art in your home?
I can learn to appreciate art when I entered the Philippine overseas. I have a Capiz Shell artframe adorning my wall. It is very beautiful. And the stagecraft of a farmer planting rice in the fields is something I miss back home. What art is their screen Fil? Haha, Bara Bara. This I read in the magazine. How do you know what happened in a house Filpino? A: Your kitchen always have a giant fork and spoon on the walls.
Yes, but not exactly a Filipino artifact, but close. During World War 2 my grandfather had a real samurai sword as a sign of the delivery of a Sergeant Japan. He has been in the soldier's family for 3 generations since 1800 and still in good (almost new) condition. I had to fight for it among my relatives after my grandfather died and I had to fight my way through customs to get it out of the country. Since he left Argentina's pre 9 / 11, only took me 5000 pesos to bribe customs officials at the airport, under the condition that if I get caught at Heathrow in London, with it, I'm on my own. It would be impossible to do nowadays. Now, it's in my room, here in my London flat, covered with thick glass and has its own security system connected to it (if someone moves, an alarm and my cell phone rings). Even my daughter knows the combination to the alarm. One of my most prized possessions.
